my case oil changed 10months ago and 4000KM driven

target 10000km or 12months. semi synthetic swift dzire 2016 vdi model.   started vehcile after 1 week. and run vehicle in 5 mins slowly in 2nd gear about 1km.   the speed range 20KM rpm 1000-1.2RPM.

the lamp light appeared searched google they said you should pullover and i did, and check for dipstick oil level, but i out in 90 degrees so it look low, after few hours started no light but i taken to mechanic instructed to change oil. done. but they check oil by horizonally after pulling the dipstick and i placed vertically. but oil looks little black. so i changed but i saw some oil slip side of engine. they maybe rat protector spray. i have investigate furhter or wait for the incident.

1. Low Oil Level

  • Cause: Insufficient oil in the engine due to leaks, burning oil, or infrequent oil changes.
  • Solution: Check the oil level using the dipstick. If low, top it up with the correct type of oil as specified in your car’s owner manual.

2. Faulty Oil Pump

  • Cause: A failing oil pump may not circulate oil properly, resulting in low oil pressure.  causing engine sounds and overheating
  • Solution: This requires immediate attention from a mechanic to inspect and potentially replace the oil pump.

3. Blocked or Dirty Oil Filter

  • Cause: A clogged oil filter restricts oil flow, reducing pressure.
  • Solution: Replace the oil filter during regular oil changes.

4. Oil Quality Degradation

  • Cause: Old or contaminated oil loses its viscosity, reducing its ability to maintain proper pressure.
  • Solution: Change the oil if it has been in use for too long or has degraded.

5. Worn Engine Components

  • Cause: Excessive wear in engine bearings or other components can result in oil leakage internally, lowering oil pressure.
  • Solution: Requires a detailed engine inspection and repairs, which may include replacing worn parts.

6. Oil Pressure Sensor Malfunction

  • Cause: A faulty sensor may incorrectly trigger the warning light even if oil pressure is adequate.
  • Solution: Have the sensor inspected and replaced if necessary.

Sometimes, dirt or any other particle gets into the probe and triggers the sensor to switch the light on. The sensor is easy to replace and does not cost much.

7. Oil Leak

  • Cause: External leaks from the oil pan, gaskets, or seals can reduce the oil level and pressure.
  • Solution: Inspect for visible leaks and repair them promptly.

What to Do If the Oil Pressure Light Comes On

  1. Pull Over Safely: Stop the car as soon as it’s safe to do so. Driving with low oil pressure can severely damage the engine.
  2. Check the Oil Level: Use the dipstick to check if the oil level is adequate.
  3. Inspect for Leaks: Look under the car for signs of oil leakage.
  4. Seek Professional Help: If topping up the oil doesn’t turn off the light, have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic immediately.

how to look car for signs of oil leakage.

Key points to look for:
  • Visible puddles:

Check the ground under your car for dark, oily puddles, especially after parking for a while.

visible oil stains on the underside of the engine
  • Oil stains:

Inspect the underside of the engine for oil stains or streaks, particularly near seals and gaskets.

  • Burning oil smell:

Notice if you smell burning oil while driving, which could indicate oil dripping onto hot engine parts.

  • Low oil level:

Regularly check your engine oil level on the dipstick and note any sudden drops.

  • Oil light on dashboard:
If the oil pressure warning light illuminates, it could signify an oil leak.

Where to check for oil leaks:

  • Oil pan:The bottom of the engine, where the oil pan is located.
  • Valve cover gaskets:The top of the engine, where the valve covers meet the cylinder head.   ‘valve door gasket aka “packing” ‘. Not to be confused with the ‘head gasket’
  • Camshaft seals:The back of the engine
  • Crankshaft seal:The rear of the engine
  • Drain plug:Check around the drain plug where it screws into the oil pan
  1. Why does my oil light flash when I’m driving?

Other issues that cause the oil light to flash on and off include oil leakage, oil contamination, a malfunctioning oil pump, a damaged oil pressure sensor, a low engine oil level in your car, damaged oil pressure sensor cables, and a blocked oil pump or filter.
